Unlike the Oia-versus-Fira decision, which trades off architecture and atmosphere as much as views, Fira and Imerovigli offer genuinely comparable caldera views — the real difference between them is how busy you want your surroundings to be.
Fira: everything within walking distance

Imerovigli: the same view, turned down
A ten-to-fifteen-minute walk or short bus ride from Fira, Imerovigli offers arguably better caldera views from its higher position, with a much quieter, more residential atmosphere — see our Imerovigli guide. You'll do more walking or rely more on taxis for restaurants and nightlife.
Our take
If you want to walk everywhere and be in the middle of things, Fira. If you'd rather have a quieter base and don't mind a short trip for dinner or nightlife, Imerovigli — and you likely won't be giving up much, if any, view quality to get it.
