Most of Santorini's most famous hotels are built for couples — small cave suites, private plunge pools, dramatic steps down the cliff face. None of that is particularly practical with young children. Families tend to do better prioritising flat access, beachfront proximity and larger rooms over a caldera view.
Where to look
Kamari and Perissa have the highest concentration of larger family rooms and apartment-style accommodation, most of it a short flat walk from the beach — see our Kamari and Perissa guides. Megalochori and Pyrgos, inland, offer a quieter, more residential alternative with easier parking, if a beachfront base matters less to you.
Questions worth asking before you book
- How many steps between reception/parking and the room? (Ask specifically — "sea view" and "caldera view" listings very often mean stairs.)
- Is there a pool with a shallow end or separate kids' area, if a pool matters?
- Is the beach shallow-entry, or does it drop off quickly? Worth checking recent reviews specifically for this.
