Greece uses the Euro, and Santorini, as a major tourist destination, is well set up for card payments — but a few practical points are worth knowing before you arrive.
Cards and cash
Most hotels, restaurants and larger shops accept cards without issue. Smaller family-run tavernas, some boat-tour operators, and certain rural or inland businesses may be cash-only or prefer it — carrying some cash, particularly for smaller purchases and inland villages, is sensible. ATMs are widely available in Fira, Oia and the main beach towns, less so in smaller inland villages.
Tipping
Tipping isn't as rigidly expected as in some countries, but it is appreciated and increasingly standard, particularly in tourist-facing businesses. As a general guide: rounding up or leaving roughly 5–10% at restaurants for good service, a euro or two per bag for hotel porters, and a similar small tip for tour guides and boat crews are all reasonable and welcomed, though never strictly obligatory.
