A week combining Santorini and Naxos

Pair the caldera with a bigger, greener, more laid-back island — a popular and easy combination by ferry.

4 min read Plan your trip

Naxos is one of the most natural pairings with Santorini on a Cyclades trip — well connected by ferry (see our island-hopping guide), and different enough in character to make the combination feel like two distinct trips rather than more of the same.

Days 1–4: Santorini

Follow a condensed version of our 7-day Santorini itinerary — caldera villages first, then a day trip south to Akrotiri, the wineries, or a boat tour to the volcano.

Ferry to Naxos

Regular ferry connections run between the two islands, generally faster and more frequent in summer; book ahead for peak-season sailings.

Days 5–7: Naxos

A larger, greener island with some of the best beaches in the Cyclades, a walkable old town, and a much more laid-back pace than Santorini's caldera villages. Highlights typically include the Portara (a giant free-standing marble doorway, the island's most photographed landmark), the mountain villages of the interior, and beaches like Plaka and Agios Prokopios.

Why the combination works

Santorini gives you the dramatic caldera views and wine culture this whole site is built around; Naxos gives you a slower pace, more affordable prices, and genuinely different landscape — mountains and long sandy beaches rather than volcanic cliffs. Together they cover a wider range of what the Cyclades actually offer than either island does alone.
