Santorini in June: early summer, before the peak-season crush

Warm, fully open, and swimmable — without quite the crowds or prices of July and August.

3 min read Plan your trip

June is the start of Santorini's true summer — the island is fully open, the weather is reliably warm, and the sea is finally comfortable for swimming, all while sitting just below the peak crowds and prices of the following two months.

Weather

Daytime highs typically run 24–28°C, climbing through the month, with sea temperatures warming into the mid-20s°C by the end of June — genuinely swimmable, if a touch cooler than high summer. Rain is rare and the meltemi wind pattern typical of Aegean summers is settling in.

Crowds and prices

Busy, but noticeably more manageable than July and August — early June in particular still has some breathing room at the major viewpoints and better restaurant availability without weeks of advance booking. Prices sit below peak-summer rates, though they're climbing as the month goes on.

What's open

Everything. By June the island is running at full capacity — every hotel, restaurant and beach club open, every boat tour running, and the interactive map's full range of villages, wineries and beaches all accessible.

Our verdict

For travellers who want warm, fully-open Santorini without the absolute peak of July–August pricing and crowding, June — especially the first half — is one of the better-value windows in the calendar.
